Here’s how the Accumul8 project started – with pots of jam. Home-made, of course. These are the Preserves with a Purpose – jam, marmalade and chutney made by young homeless people with fruit donated from the local community. The products are sold at Food and Craft Fairs, and they have directly lead to workshops in photography and film-making. Fruit that may have gone to waste is turned into something delicious that pays for creative activities for young people who are homeless.
Accumul8 provide photography workshops at the North London YMCA, East London YMCA and Evolve Hostels. Taught by Ravensbourne College tutors and students, these provide a valuable opportunity for young people to leave their hostel, learn new skills, make friends and explore their creativity. They also increase self-confidence and a sense of personal value, helping young people make positive decisions in their lives and for their future.
